Newborn photography on the North Shore

Newborn sessions run about two hours in your own home, at your baby's pace. I bring the beanbag, the wraps and the props, so there's nothing for you to buy or set up. My style is lifestyle and natural posing — nothing forced, nothing staged. Packages start at $540 for 10 enhanced digital photos.

The first two weeks are ideal, but I photograph babies up to six months.

Family photography on the North Shore — at home or outdoors

Family sessions are an hour, and you choose where. At home, in the rooms your kids actually live in, with the morning light and the mess and the sofa everyone piles onto. Or outdoors at sunrise or sunset, somewhere on the North Shore that means something to you.

Both work. Neither is better. At home suits families with a baby or a toddler who naps at awkward times; outdoors suits older kids who need to run. From $440 for 10 enhanced digital photos, and you get my client wardrobe and a prep guide before the day.

I'm good with toddlers who won't sit still, because none of mine do either.

What a session on the North Shore looks like

For newborn sessions I arrive, walk through your house and find the best light — usually a bedroom or a north-facing window. Setup takes about ten minutes. We photograph around feeds and settles, never to a clock.

For family sessions at home it's the same, without the setup. Outdoors we meet about an hour before sunset, walk, talk, and I photograph what happens. Your private gallery arrives about two weeks later either way.

Do you travel beyond the North Shore?

Yes. I'm based in West Pymble, postcode 2073, and I travel across Sydney, including Parramatta, the Hills District and the Inner West. There's a $50 travel fee beyond 20km of 2073.

Where I photograph on the North Shore

Upper North Shore

Gordon, Killara, Lindfield, Roseville, Pymble, West Pymble, Turramurra, Warrawee, Wahroonga, St Ives, Waitara and Normanhurst are all within a few minutes of home for me. Upper North Shore houses tend to have generous windows and leafy outlooks, which is exactly the light I like working with — and there are good outdoor spots within walking distance of most of them. No travel fee anywhere in this area.

Just north of here I also work across Hornsby — see my newborn photographer in Hornsby page.

Lower North Shore

I photograph regularly in Chatswood, Willoughby, Artarmon, Lane Cove, Northbridge, Castlecrag, Naremburn, Crows Nest, St Leonards, Wollstonecraft, Waverton, Cammeray, North Sydney, Neutral Bay, Cremorne and Mosman. Lower North Shore apartments often have beautiful directional light — a single big window is usually all a newborn session needs — and the harbour foreshore is right there for family sessions.

To the west I also photograph in Ryde and Gladesville — see my newborn photographer in Ryde page.

Where we can shoot outdoors on the North Shore

Lane Cove National Park and Bobbin Head for bush and filtered light. Balmoral, Clifton Gardens and Bradleys Head for water. Echo Point Park at Roseville, Beauchamp Park in Chatswood and St Ives Showground for open grass and big skies. Berry Island Reserve at Wollstonecraft if you want something quieter.

If you've got a park you walk to every weekend, we can shoot there. The familiar places usually photograph best, because nobody's on their best behaviour.

Newborn family portraits on the North Shore

Siblings, grandparents, the dog — everyone who lives in the house belongs in the photos. Newborn sessions include your whole family, not just the baby, and we photograph you the way you actually are together. No lining up, no "say cheese".

Maternity and pregnancy photography on the North Shore

From around 30 weeks, at home or somewhere on the North Shore you love. You can borrow a dress from my wardrobe, so there's nothing to shop for. Sixty minutes, from $390.

Baby photoshoots and cake smash on the North Shore

Cake smash sessions for first birthdays, at home or outdoors. Bubbles and portraits first, then the cake comes out. Sixty minutes, from $450. Sitter sessions at six to eight months work beautifully too — that's the age they start showing you who they are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you photograph families at home or outdoors?

Both — it's your choice. Family sessions run an hour either way, and cost the same. At home suits families with a baby or a napping toddler. Outdoors suits older kids who need space to run. I'll help you decide when we talk.

Do you come to my home on the North Shore?

Yes — every newborn session is in your own home, and family sessions can be too. I'm based in West Pymble, so the whole North Shore is close and there's no travel fee here.

How much is a session?

Newborn from $540 for a two-hour in-home session with 10 enhanced digital photos. Family from $440 for an hour, maternity from $390, cake smash from $450. A $100 deposit secures your date, and you can upgrade to a larger gallery after you've seen your photos.

Do you use props or posed newborn photography?

No studio props and no staged poses. I use soft wraps and a beanbag to keep your baby comfortable, and everything is led by the baby.

What if my apartment is small or dark?

Small is fine. I only need one room with a decent window, and I'm used to working in Lower North Shore apartments. I carry a soft fill light for the rooms that need it.

What time of day is best for an outdoor family session?

The hour before sunset, or just after sunrise. The light is soft and low, and nobody is squinting. In Sydney that means late afternoon most of the year, and early evening in summer.

When should I book?

For newborns, get in touch in your second or third trimester and I'll pencil in your due date. Family sessions are easier — a few weeks' notice is usually enough, though spring and autumn weekends fill fast.
